Birthday in Ouray, CO---49 and holding!!

A perfect Birthday Morning--horseback riding in the Mountains. This is Alec and I w/our guides, sisters Blythe and Caity and their dog Bailey.

Alec on top of "Diamond C"--what a backdrop!

Me and my Hubby---going to dinner in our DIRTY jeep (note: if there's not any dirt on your jeep, then you didn't have any fun!!) Tom, Alec & I (Tate was back in Iowa getting ready to start her first grown-up job: Miss LaBelle, 2nd Grade Teacher) spent almost 2 weeks in August jeeping the San Juan Mountains. We visited Telluride and Silverton, but it was Ouray CO that captured our hearts!

Junkin' at Magpie--Ouray, CO

While shopping the downtown, (desperately seeking for one of MY kind of stores), i came upon the cutest place in Ouray all the way at the end of Main street. YaHoo! I don't need to go thru Junque-withdrawal while on vacation. I can get a fix here!! But on the door was a sign--
"Will be re-opening Aug. 19th"
WHAT!!! That was 3 whole days. Aaaagh, it was tormenting, but i got there right away at 11am on Wed. At 11:10, still not open, so i called the cell phone # on the sign and said:
"I've had my nose pressed up against the glass waiting for you to open, please, please PLEASE tell me you're coming in!"
Well let me tell you, once i got in the door, i could hardly leave. Kim was so friendly and fun-a JunqueMate from the west!! I had so much fun in her store, couldn't stop raving about it--i'm sure that by the end of my last (extended) visit, she was probably thinking: "How much coffee has that girl had?" That wasn't caffeine in my blood, it was pure electrifying JUNQUE!!!--flowing like a drug! haha
Meet the Shopkeeper...Kim Sainio, a delightful, wonderful woman who has ALL of our addictions housed in this tiny but jam-packed jewel of a shop. If you're ever in Ouray, CO you just have to visit her.

Dumpster Diving Divas

Yep, we really did do this. for 2 weekends in a row, us Junque Chicks morphed into our other super power... The Dumpster Diving Divas...and went searching thru miles of trash ("hold onto my ankles Auntie LoLo, i'm going in") in search of junque to create all kinds of unique things that you fellow junquies just can't get enough of!
Read on and share in our fun.......

sometimes ALL we want are the hardware and legs.

Hmmm...I'm thinking clock face...

But I really really WANT this!

sorry "Nonnie"...not gonna fit!

People We Met

Mr. Friendly Neighbor took a break from his basketball playing, to loan us some tools. We were all dying for one of those happy hour cocktails he had, but (sigh) we had many miles of junque ahead of us!

Jerry here said that he no longer needs to walk the dogs to attract women---he's never met so many women in his life as he has while filling his curb with Junque!!

The 2nd weekend we got smart and brought Joe's Big Diesel Truck. No sneakin' up on the junk in that thing!

A Junque-r Tag-er Along-er

Rule #l--if you want to be a TRUE junquer, DON'T wear white pants and sandals. (But you look great Tenora and you're ALWAYS a lot of fun!!)

FlashLights & HeadLamps

The night got really fun when it got dark enough for us to put on the headlamps and bring out the flash light. And just in time too, look what was lurking in the dark--Vintage suitcases!!

JunqueYard CenterFold

Lisa found some sidewalk chalk in this pile and we couldn't resist leaving the garbage men a note. Do you just LOVE the head lamp? (Who needs a crown?)
These two weekends were absolutely the most fun--finding junque is always exhilirating, but...finding FREE junk just about makes us pass out!
Be sure to check out the JunqueYard for all the cool things we've made with our finds!!
